Situated along the Kvarner Gulf on the Adriatic coast, Opatija is a historic resort town in Croatia known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and the cradle of Croatian tourism. Developed as a fashionable spa retreat for Austro-Hungarian royalty and elites in the late 19th century, the town is celebrated for its Belle Époque architecture, lush coastal parks, and mild Mediterranean microclimate.
Some highlights of the town includes Lungomare Promenade (a famous 12-kilometer-long paved seaside promenade that stretches along the coastline from Volosko to Lovran), Maiden with Seagull (Djevojka s galebom, this iconic bronze statue of a nymph extending her hand to a seagull sits on a rocky reef near the shoreline, serving as Opatija's primary symbol.), Villa Angiolina & Angiolina Park and St. James’ Church (Crkva sv. Jakova).
